About the Designer

" For many budding designers, a London-based flagship store and an internationally acclaimed brand before the age of 30 may seem unattainable. But for those such as Kate Sandilands, it is very much a case of watch this space..." Fashion Extras January 2007

My passion for jewellery started at a young age, making and selling friendship bracelets and hair braids on the primary school playground. Always more interested in crafts than dolls, my love of art, crafts and design continued throughout my school life and progressed through to the completion of a BA Hons Degree in Jewellery Design and Silversmithing.

After gaining work experience in london with acclaimed companies such as Tatty Devine and Anna Lou of London, I continued to create my own collections, supplying to shops, fashion events and catwalk shows across the region. Also working in a partnership with 3 other talented young designers, we created a hugely popular stall based in Brick Lane's Sunday Upmarket with the name 'I like Birds'.

I continued work as a Design and Production Associate for Anna Lou of london, and saw my designs contribute towards the great success of the company; Collaborating with companies such as Oliver Bonas, Fiorucci, Hello Kitty and Courvoisier, and appearing in many popular publications such as Cosmopolitan, Times Magazine, Grazia, Company and Look magazines to name but a few.

I now work as a Freelance Designer, and have seen my designs progress to the high street, acquired by national and international retailers such as Tescos, Topshop, and also on websites including ASOS.com, Topshop, Office.com and Poste Mistress. My own work is tribal inspired, yet with a touch of fun and style that make my pieces easily wearable. I like to create a talking point, make a statement, and generate a new found love for iconic imagery.
